The last few days of our trip, we spent as much time as we could at the pool or the beach. The pool at our resort was amazing!! It had several connected pools with a lazy river and water slides. It also had a water elevator - the only one like it in the world! There was also a separate adult pool that was so beautiful and serene. When we got tired of playing and going on water slides we were able to escape to the other pool to relax. It was perfect!
Leading to the adult pool...
The beach in front of the hotel was nice because we could get chairs and umbrellas, perfect for relaxing and reading (my kind of paradise). And they had the most amazing banana bread, topped with toasted coconut and macadamia nuts! Mmmmm...
Whether on the beach or by the pool, if David wasn't in the water he looked like this - napping away in the sun. Friends would walk by and smile at him, with his shorts pulled up for a better tan. :) I guess that's his idea of paradise!
We liked the beach in front of the hotel, but we wanted to try out other beaches as well. This was one on the opposite side of the island, and it had this awesome shade tree that acted as the perfect umbrella.
One night for dinner we'd heard a lot about a restaurant called Da Kitchen, so we decided to check it out. On the way we saw a cool rainbow, one of several we saw during the week.
It turned out to be a Cafe Rio type place in a strip mall. I got a typical Hawaiian dish with pulled pork, cole slaw, rice and spam! :) It was delish, spam and all! During the week we also at a yummy Mediterranean restaurant, had some great flat-bread pizza, and David had more than his fill of fish and chips! On our last morning we decided to hit one more beach to try and boogie board. Here are the boys walking through the jungle to get to the beach...
It was so pretty! My favorite beach (besides the black sand beach)... Our hotel was just on the other side of the bend.
Waiting for a wave.
They were small, but still fun. :) The boys stayed out there for a couple hours!
I was content to relax on the sand.
Our room (we agreed to two queen beds if we could have an ocean view)...
And one last picture of our gorgeous view! If we ever go back to Maui it will be hard to beat our stay at the Grand Wailea!
Leaving the hotel.
David was especially sad to have to say goodbye to his Mustang. :)
Before he did, though, we took a drive to see the lava rock south of our hotel.
And then we finished off our trip with a late lunch at the renowned Mama's Fish House restaurant. Everyone we talked to raved about it so we had to try it out.
The food was probably some of the best I've ever had! Apple mint tropical drink...
Breaded calamari (David's appetizer)...
Fish in a curry sauce (for David)...
And my ono (wahoo fish), which the waitress recommended after I admitted I didn't like fish. It was amazing!!! And no, it didn't taste like fish at all!
We had this delectable little mousse for dessert. It was almost too pretty to eat!
Our table was inside that porch area. The ambience was so cool! We looked out onto the ocean and got to watch windsurfers while we ate. As much as David and I like good food, it was definitely a highlight of our trip, and a perfect way to end!
We had a long trip home (a layover in San Francisco in the middle of the night was not very fun) but coming home to this sweet face made it all worth it. :) I guess my real paradise is at home with the kids, but I sure don't mind a little escape every now and then. ;)
