Our getaway to Pagosa Springs
The day after the 4th of July weekend, David and I had a chance to spend some days away on our own - no kids! It was the first time I've ever gone for more than a night away from any of my kids, and the first time I left Ariana at all, so it was kind of a big deal. David's friends from State Farm, Lou Santoro and his son Casey and their family, invited us to join them at their summer home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, which is just east of Durango near the New Mexico border. We spent three days there and loved it! I enjoyed getting to know the Santoros, and we loved the gorgeous surroundings and chance to relax. Here are some pictures of the home - it was so nice!
Wednesday morning I lounged out on the deck with a book and read for hours - it was perfect. I almost felt guilty for relaxing so much and enjoying myself away from the kids. (Thank goodness Mom was happy to stay home with them the days we were away!) Then there was the semi-final game for Spain in the World Cup and we'd planned our whole day around it so David wouldn't miss it. It actually was fun for everyone to watch it, and thankfully, Spain won! That In the afternoon we went tubing down the river that runs through town, despite threatening thunderstorms. I enjoyed going once, but Kendra and I decided to sit in a hot spring and wait while David and Casey went a 2nd time. We did get rained on, but it was still a lot of fun. We finished off the day at a Mexican restaurant and the next morning we packed up and came home. It was about a 7 hour road trip there and back, but it gave David and I plenty of time to talk about all sorts of things, and we saw cool things like this...
And our view from the deck, which we enjoyed as often as we could...
On Monday we went into town and enjoyed gelato from the best little gelato shop. I had pomegranate and orange dreamsicle - yum! Then we barbecued steaks for dinner and visited out on the deck, until we thought we could hear the resident bear start rustling around and hurried inside to bed.

Tuesday, Mr. Santoro treated David and Casey to a day on the river with a professional fly fisher. David loved it! While they were gone Casey's wife, Kendra, and I went to lunch and browsed through the little shops downtown, with plans to hit the famous Pagosa hot springs later that evening with our men. Unfortunately, David got completely sunburned and couldn't tolerate the heat of the springs, so went out for pizza and visited some more instead.

As great as it was to get away, I was so glad to get back to the kids. Still, I wouldn't mind doing little trips like that more often. It was fun to visit new places and make new friends! I'd definitely love to go back.

4th of July!
I'm going to try and get caught up here - so many things have been happening these last few weeks! It'll probably take me a while, but at least I'll get started...
For the 4th of July, we had a picnic at Grandma Willes' house on Saturday (which was actually the 3rd). It was also the same day as a big World Cup game for Spain, so half of us were in red, white and blue, and the other half were in red and yellow.
After the picnic we rushed down to Provo to get a seat for the Stadium of Fire fireworks. We watched them from our traditional spot on University Ave., across from the Malt Shoppe. Time passed quickly as we played with poppers and sparklers, ate snacks, and cuddled together on the grass. The fireworks were great this year - worth the wait!
Here are the kids Sunday the 4th in their red, white and blue.
And we finished off the weekend with a festive family dinner at our house and ice cream cones for dessert. Matthew really enjoyed his, can you tell?

Ariana and Cambria are noticing each other and playing together a whole lot more these days. They loved hanging out on Grandma's little chairs! So cute.

Phew!
What a day! In fact, it's been a pretty crazy past couple of weeks! Obviously, I haven't had time for much blogging lately. I do plan on starting up with my daily ten once I get caught up with everything, and at this rate that might be a while!
Mom came into town a couple weeks ago, so we've been busy doing fun things with her and the family, celebrating the 4th of July, picnics, etc. Then David and I spent four days last week in Colorado - just us, no kids! It was good. Then there was the World Cup... We've had some crazy game days over here - lots of red and yellow, screaming, jumping up and down, and even tears. Thankfully, Spain won! David was one very happy man. I've also been busy trying to keep up with all the babies being born in our ward (five this month alone!). Every spare minute I've had the past little while I've spent cutting fabric or sewing burp cloths. And tomorrow we're headed to the farm, Jackson Hole, Island Park, and Yellowstone! Should be a fun trip. I'm going to need a vacation just after the stress of trying to prepare for one!
